19 missing labourers : “No more hopes for 3 labourers”, DA closes search and rescue operation

NAHARLAGUN, AUG 2: Search and Rescue operation of 19 missing labourers at BRO road Huri under Damin circle has been closed by the District Administration on August 01, the Kurung Kumey DC Nighee Bengia was informed in a press release today. 

The release said, “After a long period of search and rescue operation of 19 missing labourers at BRO road Huri under Damin circle, search and rescue operation has been closed by the District Administration on August 1, 2022.”

The deputy commissioner further said  “There is no further hope for rescue of remaining 3 (three) missing labourers as areas/spots were thoroughly searched by the ground search and rescue teams which consisted of SDRF team, Local team and the Police team.”

The DC further said, “The inaccessible nature of its locations, inclement weather throughout the month, steep cliffs with deep gorges and threat of venomous snakes also hampered the search and rescue operation.”

“Out of 19 labourers, 10 (ten) labourers found alive and rescued,

5 (five) dead bodies found in decomposed condition, 1 (one) drowned in the Furak river and other 3 (three) labourers still missing and not known whereabouts”,  the DC said. 

The Deputy Commissioner said, “the 5 (five) decomposed dead bodies could be retrieved to Huri/Damin, however the decomposed dead bodies were disposed/buried in the vicinity of the dead bodies and followed with due cremation process. The 10 (ten) rescued labourers have been sent to Assam for their further movement to respective villages. Earlier IAF choppers were called off due to inclement weather.”
