Assistance and support extended to Yingkiong fire victims

YINGKIONG, Apr 27: A delegation of the Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) unit of Itanagar,  Guwahati, RGU and NERIST on Wednesday visited the fire ravaged Yingkiong in Upper Siang and handed over Rs. 4, 15,980 to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Yingkiong.  

The unions were able to provide the financial assistance only due to the voluntary contribution extended by the generous people of the state, said president AdiSU Itanagar unit, Daniel Eko.

Expressing satisfaction with the response of the state government in mitigating the crisis faced by the affected households, the unions urged the district administration to install more fire extinguishers within the town.

They also appealed to the DA to install a proper fuse system to avoid excess flow of current, to install fire alarms and to do regular check of current leakages to avert any kind of fire mischief.

 A Two days donation drive was organized at Akashdeep Itanagar, Sumo counter Naharlagun, Bage Tinali Nirjuli and Rajiv Gandhi University Campus from 23 to 24 for the fire victims that occurred on 21 April last, wherein 53 houses including residences were turned to ashes in daily market area on 21 April.

Earlier the team led by BJP General secretary and Namsai MLA Z Namchoom and Vice president Tarh Tarak on Tuesday had also visited and interacted with the fire victims and contributed some financial assistance.

On Monday afternoon the student leader led by AAPSU former Vice President Meje Taku also visited Yingkiong and interacted with the victims and extended some ration items and also provided some financial support to the fire victims.

As per information, the local MLA and Health & Family welfare Minister Alo Libang has been supporting and supervising the fire victims in their daily activities.
