Bamang Felix launched the spring shed development programme on watershed basis

JORAM, Jul 5: The spring shed development programme on watershed basis was launched here on Monday at Phu Joram village under Yachuli sub-division of Lower Subansiri district by home minister Bamang Felix in presence of education minister Taba Tedir and NABARD general manager Partho Saha. The spring shed programme has been launched to rejuvenate ground water resources in the area.

The natural resource management agency of Arunachal (NRMA) is helping NABARD to implement the programme in cooperation with villagers. 1000 hectares of land will be covered as part of this initiative.

Speaking on the occasion the home minister urged people of the area to actively take part in the initiative to conserve water for all round development which include agriculture, horticulture and drinking and other purposes.

“This is a very important project to conserve groundwater for the coming generation. People need to cooperate with each other and patiently work together,” said the home minister. He also appreciated the people of Joram for their pro-development attitude.

The education minister Taba Tedir who is also local MLA termed the start of the water conservation initiative from Joram area as historic one. “Everyone knows that Joram is one of the historical places of 16 Yachuli constituencies. This is where Nyokum was first celebrated. However, the area has been facing a drinking water crisis due to deforestation. This water conservation initiative was much needed in the area,” said Tedir. He urged people to stop rampant cutting of forests for agriculture activities. Further Tedir asked locals to stop hunting.

The General Manager NABARD Partho Saha in his address said recharging of ground water will benefit entire humanity in the long run. “The issue of shrinking drinking water concerns everyone across the world. This is a big problem and a challenge for the human population. Everyone will have to come forward and contribute to save water for the future,” he said.

The NRMA President Joram Pupa appealed to the NABARD to cover more areas under the spring shed development programme for effective outcome in future. He highlighted the problem of water scarcity being faced by the people of the Joram area.

Lower Subansiri ZPC Likha Sangchhore, Deputy Commissioner S Lowang, ADC Yachuli Toko Babu, Under Secretary LIkha Sampo, HoDs, GBs, local public leaders of the area were present on the occasion.
