ITANAGAR, AUG 24: The Capital Administration has prohibited the general public from entering Nyorch River at Upper Nyorch for picnic, river bathing, and hiking due to PHED water supply line restoration work and suspension bridge repair over River Nyorch.
In an order issued by Naharlagun EAC (vide order No-EAC/NLG/JUD-01/2024/630, dated August 23, 2024), it was stated that “the Naharlagun PHED Division has informed that the hanging bridge near Debra Nallah water source was destroyed due to a monsoon storm in July 2024. The PHED department has initiated the restoration process of the damaged hanging bridge.”
The EAC added, “Due to heavy traffic flow of picnic goers/hikers at Nyorch River, coupled with congested roads, PHED officials are finding it difficult to transport construction materials to the site. Therefore, plying of private scooters, bikes, and cars beyond the village area of Upper Nyorch is prohibited for 12 days, from August 24 to September 7, 2024.”
The order mentions that due to the collapse of the suspension bridge, the PHED Naharlagun Division is fully prepared with materials and equipment and has already stocked some construction materials and commenced work. During this time, the department has arranged for Tatamobile water supply distribution in various colonies/sectors of Naharlagun, Nirjuli, etc.
However, individuals with their own vehicles and facilities can obtain water from several filling stations in the entire capital complex, including Itanagar, Naharlagun, and Nirjuli areas.
