Condolences pour in for former minister Mekup Dolo

ITANAGAR, Jul 17: Former Minister Mekup Dolo who was also the wife of former Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo passed away today afternoon due to cardiac arrest. She was 61. Her last rites will be performed at Goloso village in Seijosa circle of Pakke Kessang district on Sunday, informed family sources.

As the news of the death of former Minister spread in social media, her family members, relatives, well-wishers rushed to the RK Mission Hospital today afternoon at around 3 PM and paid floral tributes to the departed leader who had served undivided East Kameng district as a social worker, public leader, as an elected MLA and a Minister.

Among others who rushed to the Hospital were Chyangtajo MLA Hayang Mangfi, former Minister Hari Natung, East Kameng ZPC, ZPMs, social workers, public leaders, youth leaders and others who joined in condoling the departed leader.

As per information Mekup Dolo belonged to Rilloh village of Pakke Kessang then in East Kameng district.

She was an instructor in the Craft centre at Seppa before she married Kameng Dolo in 1971. She was very good in sports activities and has always inspired the youths to opt for sports as a discipline.

She has been associated with several women welfare organisations and has always actively participated in several social welfare activities including women welfare activities in the district and other parts of the state. She was elected to the state legislative assembly from 8 Bameng assembly constituency and has also served as Minister of State for Social Welfare, Women and Child Development during 1999-2004 tenure.

Both Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu condoled the demise of Mekup Dolo.

The State Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona also condoled her death.
The Governor said that with her passing away, the State had lost a meritorious women legislator of the State.

The Governor said Late Dolo represented Bameng Assembly Constituency in East Kameng District from 1999 to 2004. She was Minister of State for Social Welfare, Women and Child Development. She positively contributed to the well being of women and children in the State.
“I join my people of Arunachal Pradesh to pray to the Almighty God for eternal peace for the departed soul and fortitude for the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss,” the Governor said.

The CM sent his condolence message to family, friends and well-wishers of the late Dolo, and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. He also prayed for strength to the bereaved family to bear the great loss.

Sona, in his condolence message, said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Mekup Dolo, former MLA and wife of former DCM Kameng Dolo. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

The Speaker prayed to the almighty God for eternal peace of her departed soul and also to bestow enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

 MLA Nabam Tuki who is also the president, APCC joined the people in mourning her death.
“I express my profound grief on the untimely demise of Mekup Dolo, former Minister and an able & inspiring leader of the State. Mekup Dolo was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly from 8th Bameng Assembly Constituency from 1999-2004. She has a distinguished personality and a very sensible, dignified and popular leader of Arunachal Pradesh. Her selfless contribution and devoted service for the welfare of the people and development of the State will always be remembered. Arunachal Pradesh has truly lost a great leader of the people,” Tuki said.
“I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family members and loved ones and pray to Almighty to give them comfort and strength to bear the irreparable loss caused to them. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace in heavenly abode,” he added.

MP (Rajya Sabha) Nabam Rebia in a condolence message to the former Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo said, “I am deeply saddened and shocked by the unbelievable news of sudden and untimely demise of Mekup Dolo, a former Minister, Arunachal Pradesh who represented 8th Bameng (ST) Constituency from 1999 to 2004”.

“Late Mekup Dolo was not only an active political leader but also a social reformer. She was one of the first women representatives of the state of Arunachal Pradesh and was instrumental in her long successful political career justifying the saying ‘behind every successful man there is a woman’ said Rebia in the message”.
“I convey my deep sense of condolence to all the members of the bereaved family. May Almighty give strength to bear this irreparable loss” Rebia added.
Minister of Environment and Forest Mama Natung has also paid condolences and prayed for eternal peace of departed soul in heavenly abode.

BJP state president and Pakke Kessang MLA Biyuram Wahge in a condolence message in social media site said that “my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace”.

Condolences have been pouring in from various sections of society, organisations and parties.
The family sources informed that the last rite will be performed at Goloso village in Seijosa circle of Pakke Kessang wherein top leaders of state are expected to attend the last journey of late Dolo.
