Dr. Lego Bids Farewell as Director of Health Services, Inspiring Journey Celebrated

Naharlagun, Jun 03: Dr. M. Lego, the esteemed Director of Health Services (DHS), was given a heartwarming farewell by the officers and staff of the Directorate of Health Services at a ceremony held in the DHS conference hall on Friday. Dr. Lego, who recently superannuated on May 31, 2023, was praised for his remarkable achievements and hailed as an inspiration for overcoming adversity.

During the farewell event, Marge Sora, MD (NHM), congratulated Dr. Lego on his successful retirement and spoke highly of his determination and resilience in facing life’s challenges, particularly considering his disadvantaged background and physical deformity. Dr. Lego’s ascent to the position of DHS, the highest administrative role for a doctor in the Health department, serves as a testament to his indomitable spirit, serving as an inspiring story for all.

Dr. H. Tama, DFW (Director of Family Welfare), and Dr. D. Wange, Joint DHS (Est.), commended Dr. Lego for his compassionate and admirable approach to public service. Dr. H. Ambing, DME (Director of Medical Education), marveled at the impressive attendance during the function, which he believed spoke volumes about Dr. Lego’s character and influence.

The farewell ceremony was attended by officers, officials, and staff from the Health department, demonstrating the widespread respect and appreciation for Dr. Lego’s contributions.

Dr. Lego’s illustrious career began after completing his MBBS from NRS Medical College, Kolkata. He cleared the UPSC (Combined Medical Services) and was appointed as a Medical Officer at the Director General of Assam Rifles, Shillong on March 10, 1988. Subsequently, due to a shortage of doctors in Arunachal Pradesh, he was transferred to the then General Hospital in Naharlagun in response to a request from the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to the Health Ministry, GoI. He officially joined the hospital on May 24, 1988.

Over the years, Dr. Lego received several promotions, including Senior Medical Officer in 1991, DDHS (Est.) in 2010, Joint DHS (Est.) in 2012, Additional DHS in 2015, and Director of Family Welfare (DFW) in 2016. Finally, he was promoted to the position of DHS on September 26, 2017, culminating in over 35 years of dedicated and exemplary service to the state. Dr. Lego holds the distinction of being the second-longest-serving DHS after Dr. G. Yomcha, former DHS.

Expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming love shown to him, Dr. Lego encouraged everyone to remain committed to their work. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the hidden talents within one’s workforce and utilizing them for the betterment of the department. Dr. Lego concluded his speech with a powerful message, urging everyone never to surrender to pain and depression, assuring them that victory would eventually be theirs.

Later in the evening, a dinner party was organized at the conference hall to celebrate Dr. Lego’s successful superannuation, marking the end of an extraordinary chapter in his life.
