ITANAGAR, Aug 2: The newly appointed Chief Engineer PWD Highway Er S Sumnyan has said the department is looking after a 978 KM stretch of highway in the state. Talking to press here on Tuesday after assuming the charge of the department he said the majority of national highway projects entrusted to PWD Highway has been completed in the state.
“In total there are 13 national highways in the state with a total length of 2517 KM. It has been divided among BRO, NHIDCL, MoRTH and state PWD. As of now we are taking up work in around 500 KM, many of whom are on the verge of completion,” he said. Further the new Chief Engineer has sought cooperation of his colleagues and people.
He also appealed to the people of the capital complex to support the construction and maintenance of the highway. “It has been seen that on NH 415 in several places the drains got choked due to throwing of wastes by the citizens. The overflowing of drains has caused damage to NH 415. I appeal to citizens of ICR not to indulge in such practice,” said CE Sumnyan.
With regard to temporary repairing and maintenance of national highway between Naharlagun-Nirjuli, Sumnyan said that the tender for package B & C has already been awarded and once we get the encumbrance free land of Package-B we will give appointed date to the concessionaire and accordingly they have to start the work and at the same time they will take care of the road and movement of traffic. However I have requested my officer to repair it till such work starts.
The outgoing chief engineer Kuru Sera has been transferred as Chief Engineer (CSQ) at Nirman Bhawan. Sera thanks the officers and officials of the Highway for extending support and appeal for continued the same with the new incumbent.
Both CE also attended a farewell programme of office Peon Lalbabu who retired after the service of more than 37 years in PWD and then to Highway department.
