I will try to discuses the issue of Tawang church being local MLA: CM Pema Khandu

ITANAGAR, 29 Jun: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed optimism that the Tawang Church issue will be resolved amicably. Talking to the press here on Wednesday Khandu said even though the land is a subject of the deputy commissioner, being the local MLA of Tawang he will try to resolve it from his level.

“This issue is not a big one. The solution can arrive. I have already met representatives of both the Christian community and local Monpa. I will try to speak to Monpa leaders on my personal level in this regard. They are native of Tawang and their voice matters in regards to land,” said Pema Khandu.

However, he also made it clear that the concerned DC takes the final call in the matter of law. “Land matters will be decided by DC as per the prevailing land laws. But whatever is possible as a local representative of Tawang I will try to find some solution,” he added.

Further, Khandu informed that a three-man committee headed by minister Mama Natung has submitted their report on the Tawang church issue.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people of the state to take maximum precautions considering the heavy rainfall being witnessed across the state.

“Monsoon has caused massive destruction in the state. I urge people to heed the warning issued by disaster management authorities. People should take precautions,” said Khandu. He said the government will extend all possible help to the districts for damage caused to the infrastructure.

“I assure people that roads will be restored after the rain subsides,” he said.

He also said though the construction of Hollongi airport has been hit hard by the heavy rainfall, the state government is committed to start air service by this year.
