IndiGo to operate direct Donyi Polo Airport-Kolkata flight from Dec 1

NAHARLAGUN, Nov 05: IndiGo airlines gears up to operate direct flights from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar to Kolkata from December 1, 2022 as the air passengers can book their tickets for a comfortable journey from Arunachal to West Bengal.

IndiGo has already declared its price list for its flight from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar to Kolkata.

The airport, which is supposed to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi anytime soon, has been declared fit for operating commercial flights after IndiGo, a low-cost carrier, successfully test- landed its aircraft at the newly-built Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar, which is the first Greenfield airport of Arunachal Pradesh.

While sharing the price of the economy class seat of the IndiGo flight for the Itanagr-Kolkata journey on his Twitter handle on Saturday, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “How heartening is this sight. The tickets from Itanagar can now be booked. A giant leap for Arunachal Pradesh.”

According to the price list, for the economy class, an adult can book a ticket at just Rs 3,999 for the air journey on an IndiGo flight.

It will be a non-stop journey of 1 hour, 55 minutes, IndiGo said.

The flight will start its journey at 1:05 pm from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar and will reach Kolkata Airport at 3:00 pm.

The airlines has also announced Rs 391 discount besides 100% refund on flight cancellation.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to name the new airport in Arunachal Pradesh as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’.

The Greenfield airport at Hollongi in Itanagar is being developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of the Centre and the state government at a cost of Rs 646 crore.

An official release said the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the naming of the Greenfield airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’.

The resolution was passed by the Arunachal Pradesh government to name the airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’. It “reflects the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) to symbolise the traditions and rich cultural heritage of the State,” it said.

The central government gave its ‘in-principle’ approval for development of the airport in January 2019.Currently, there are 131 operational airports in the country, according to data available on the civil aviation ministry website.
