Insurgents open fire at Assam Rifles camp in Pangsau Pass, 1 officer sustains injury

ITANAGAR, AUGUST 9: Incident of firing on Assam Rifles troops by militant groups from across the Indo-Myanmar Border took place early morning on Monday in gen area Tirap, Changlang. A defense source said.

The Assam Rifles troops were undertaking enhanced patrolling activities in view of heightened vigil for the forthcoming Independence Day. One JCO sustained minor injury in hand. No injury or any other damage reported. Defence PRO Lt Col A S Walia said in a release.

The Enhanced surveillance by own troops to continue, the Defence sources added.

Meanwhile, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo said in a message that on Monday at around 0315h suspected group of insurgents (likely mix group of ULFA (I) & NSCN (K-YA) fired upon Assam Rifles at Pangsau Pass Post near Indo-Myanmar Border. Suspected insurgents reportedly were firing from the Myanmar territory adjacent to the Indo-Myanmar border. SP said.

One JCO sustained a splinter injury on his right arm. SP said.

Operation underway till filing of the report. Added SP Gambo.
