NSCN (K-YA) releases Gaon Burah safely

NAHARLAGUN, May 10: Coming down under pressure,the NSCN(K-YA) on Tuesday released the Napho Boham, the Gaon Burah of Lauksim village in Longding district safely.

The Gaon Burah was abducted by five NSCN (K-YA) cadres who came in combat dress with long range weapons, on May 7.

Longding Superintendent of Police Vikran Harimohan Meena confirmed the safe release of the Gaon Burah on Tuesday from the clutches of the militant group.

As per sources, after kidnapping the Gaon Burah, the NSCN(K-YA) cadres were hiding in the jungles in the vicinity of Jaboka village of Nagaland’s Mon district.

However, Boham was safely rescued from a place near Nagaland-Arunachal Pradesh border after combined efforts by the security forces.

A media report quoted a police official as saying that all-out efforts were carried out by security forces for rescuing the Gaon Burah.

“The abductee was found visibly in good health and has been sent for further medical check-up,” the report quoted a police source as saying.

The Gaon Burah was abducted on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 by an armed group of suspected NSCN (K-YA) militants who allegedly entered Longding district from Laukun village of Mon district.

The incident was reacted strongly by the people of the district. A group of angry youth of the Kanubari area of Longding district took out a protest rally against the abduction.  The youth expressed deep resentment against the illegal activities of the insurgent groups operating in Longding district.

The Wancho youth and villagers of Kanubari area turned up in large numbers in Lauxim village, displaying placards and banners against the militants.The protesters shouted slogans to express their anger against NSCN (K-YA) for kidnapping the Gaon Burah.
