SDS condemns woman’s murder in Changlang; SIT to probe case

NAHARLAGUN, Apr 1: The Singpho Development Society (SDS), an apex body of the Singpho community in Arunachal Pradesh, has strongly condemned the alleged rape and murder of a woman in the Kharsang area under Miao sub-division.

As per reports, a woman, who went missing on March 7, 2021, was allegedly killed after being kidnapped and raped. On the basis of an FIR lodged at the Kharsang Police Station, two persons were arrested by the police.

After the recovery of the decomposed body of the woman, a tense situation emerged in the area and a mob gathered at the Kharsang Police Station on Wednesday evening demanding that the accused be handed over to them.

The mob also torched a vehicle. Later the situation was brought under control at the initiative of the local MLA and the high-level police officials.

The Singpho Development Society in a statement termed the alleged abduction as a cold-blooded murder and sought justice as early as possible.

“Such inhuman acts of violence have no space in a civilized society and more so in a tribal society of ours,” said SFDS president Jowkhong Singpho.

“SDS appeals to the law enforcing agencies to nab the culprits at the earliest and put them to trial through a fast track court, so that justice is delivered to the victim at the earliest,” the SDS president said.

At this hour of pain and sorrow, the Singpho Development Society stands in solidarity with the family of the victim, the statement said.

“May the Almighty God give strength to the family of the deceased to cope with the irreparable and untimely loss of precious life,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Changlang Deputy Commissioner in a statement said the local police have arrested two suspects and a probe is being carried out in fast-track mode.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav said, “The case has been transferred to SIT for a swift and fair enquiry.”

He further informed that the district administration has announced compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

The DC also assured of all possible assistance & support to the victim’s family.
