ITANAGAR, FEB 2; Hundreds of school students of Class IX and XI of several government schools on Monday carried out protest marches and dharna demanding extension of state board exam to begin from February 8 to 23.
Hundreds of students from various Higher secondary Schools and Secondary schools of the Capital Complex carried out a protest march from Tennis court to Ganga Market and later staged dharna in front of Directorate of Secondary Education at ESS sector for an hour. The students were holding placards and shouting slogans for postponement of the state board examination of Class IX & XI for one month or declaration of examination through online mode but after completion of the syllabus. .
The students allege that the syllabus of almost all the subjects has not been completed and in some cases the teachers have haphazardly completed the syllabus in view of the state board examination. They allege that we are not at all prepared for the examination in view of several festivals and the internet blocked by the capital administration in view of capital bandhs. We are helpless and to give attention to the general masses which reach the concerned authorities and our examination is postponed, we have carried out this democratic path.
The students allege that we have approached to our respective school authority but they simply say as helpless as the date for examination has announced and were not informed to us timely and it is like as of a sudden the examination from February 8 onwards and in such a situation what can be done and finding no option we have hit the street today and we apologies for the inconvenience caused to the general public on the streets.
Injustice has been made to the students community as there have been lots of problems with online mode classes for the last few weeks and offline classes mode and in between the teachers could not reach out to all the students and now every student may suffer. We representing the maximum numbers of students of our respective schools as we could not arrange transportation and other facility to come for protest and we are here to raise the voice of all the students of Class IX & Classes XI students and urge upon the authority to hear to our demand and consider for extension of the examination for one months.
When contacted, Director School Education, Marken Kadu informed a delegation of students and informed them of the routine of the state board examination from February 8 to 23. The date sheet and examination was announced by the department much earlier and even one month back and all the examination materials have reached the destination in respective schools of the state. Kadu said.
There is a system of chronology of conducting and arrangement for examination and all the machinery has been geared up for conducting the examination. All the system will be brake and all the arrangement would be displace for the CBSE examination which would be held just three days later of the state board examination and it would be much difficult to postponed the examination and accordingly I have informed the students properly however I will apprise the higher authority about the protest of the students community.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Taba Tedir while talking to the media late evening during a function here at DK Convention centre has assured to discuss the matter and will inform the department accordingly.
Carrying protest and dharna without information to concern school authority and department and government is not good, he said.
If the children have grievances they should have approached the authority and department for a resolution. After all they are our children’s and we will sit and discuss and later inform. Tedir said.
State government always looks forward to the wellbeing of the students community and also due to Covid pandemic all the issues are being taken care of and the children should also concentrate in their daily activity properly and carefully. Said Tedir adding that we will discuss the issue.
