ITANAGAR, MAY 17: All efforts are being made to retrieve the third victim who was trapped in the massive landslide triggered by heavy rain on Sunday late evening behind Punjabi dhaba in C-D sector in the city. Said Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom.
Potom said that the rescue operation was launched to recover the information on Sunday evening after the landslide takes place at around 9 PM and since then the rescue operation has continued. The team of NDRF, SDRF, capital Police and supported by the locals and being monitored and supervised by the team of administrative officers of capital administration and magistrates round the clock. Even during the night hours the operation was continued but only two bodies were recovered. He said.
All efforts are being made to locate and retrieve the third victim’s body.
Earlier two JCB were engaged but both the machine got damaged in the muddy and debris and after that Folkland (bulldozer) was engaged and an operation was launched but trying to get lead and able to retrieve the body. DC said.
As of now due to natural disaster four people have lost their lives and several others have been injured. All injured people are being treated. The chief minister has already announced an ex-gratia to the next of kind of the decease and formalities will be made as per rule, the administration is monitoring the situation round the clock and all the administrative officers and officers of various departments of the capital complex been alerted to response the disaster call made by the victims and extend possible help. He said.
The capital administration has already announced several relief camps in the capital region and necessary arrangements are being made in case any person comes for help. He said.
The relief camp has been started in view of incessant rain due to prevailing monsoon season and in anticipation of disaster and the government building like Auditorium hall of GHSS, ESS Sector, Itanagar, Government primary school C Sector, Government Middle school Kankarnalla, Naharlagun and Nikum Niya hall Banderdewa has been converted into relief camps and in case of disaster people may contact the disaster management officer and even on toll free no- 1077 (only on BSNL). DC said.
He appealed to all those persons residing near the river bank and down the mountain slope to remain alert and it is better till the situation is normalized they should leave to safer places as a precautionary measures. DC Potom added.
Meanwhile, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram has informed alert has been made either though media or through PA system in the capital region but in otherwise it is necessary that those who are residing in vulnerable area like river banks and down below mountain which are prone to the landslide and flood may immediately vacate the place as a safety measure to remain safe. He said that prevention is better than cure to remain safe. We have to take precautionary measures. It is a humble request to all to remain safe. He also said that due to downpour and inclined weather conditions it is also necessary for commuters while driving to maintain extra alert to avoid any untoward incident.
