Mani March 08: International Women’s Day with theme ‘gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow’ celebrated in a befitting manner here at Mini Auditorium Govt Secondary School, Mani village under Doimukh Sub-Division, Papum Pare District today under the aegis of Arunachal Rising Campaign. The programme was organised by the District administration Papum Pare Department of Information and Public Relations Yupia in collaboration with Women and Child Development ICDS Doimukh and an NGO – Friends for Life, Model village, Naharlagun.
Hundreds of women from nearby villages and Anganwadi centres attended the programme to celebrate the day.
While addressing the gathering resource persons on the occasion Advocate Radhilu Chai Techi, former Chairperson Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for women greeted the participants and briefly highlighted the historical aspects of International Women Day. In her address, she spoke about gender equality, property rights to women and status of women in the society.
Exhorting the womenfolk she said that ‘we must promise ourselves to give more emphasis on how to empower our women socially, politically and economically to make them stronger and self-reliant. Citing various incidents of atrocities on women she also strongly advocated for property rights to women and asserted that a woman would become economically independent only if they are given property rights.
She added that if we need empowerment then we need to change our mindset and therefore women should stand up to fight for their rights and to make a better future for girls. Other Resource persons on the occasion Ms. Nabam Yeni, Clinical Psychologist TRIHMS, Naharlagun gave presentation on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and impact of drug abuse and alcoholism and Shri P.K Das Deputy Director, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, GoAP on Skill Development schemes for women respectively.
Head Master Nabam Rikam who also spoke on the occasion. Smti Taku Natung Nabam Chairperson Friends for Life gave Vote of Thanks and expressed gratitude to all participants for their overwhelming support in successful conduct of the celebration . Earlier Y.Jerang DIPRO-Cum- Member Secretary Arunachal Rising Campaign highlighted the about ARC and objective of celebrating the international women day as part of women empowerment to create awareness at grassroot level. In the meantime, a documentary ‘Bunai Ki Rangin Duniyan’ featuring Smti Neelam Misra, first Lady of the state was also screened on the occasion .
To mark the day two women achievers were also felicitated with memento and certificates. Women Bolero Pick-Up Driver Smti Tasser Pade from Kra Daadi District who is presently residing at Chiputha village was felicitated in cognition of her courage and hardwork to become independent and setting role model for other women. Smti Pade who was married off at very early age says that she was victim of child marriage and even though she is illiterate , she strongly stand against all odds of life to become stronger person and self- employed to support her family. Educationist Ms.Aparna Govind Palkar, who was one of the pioneer in promotion of girl child in Arunachal Pradesh and one of the member of founder team establishing VKV Tafrogam in 1980 was also felicitated in honour for her contributions in promoting girl child education and empowering the women.
