Government Middle School, Borum, Naharlagun played host to a significant event—the State Level Lagori Referee and Training Workshop, orchestrated by the Lagori Association Of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with the Amateur Lagori Federation Of India (ALFI).

Conducted by ALFI’s leadership, including President Sandip P Gurav, Joint Secretary Tushar V M Jadhav, and Technical Director Bharat P Gurav, the workshop drew more than 43 sports coaches and provided training to 80 students from Government Middle School. Covering Lagori’s history, rules, and strategic nuances, the workshop shed light on the ancient sport, intertwined with Lord Shree Krishna.

Celebrating Lagori’s success at the 37th National Games, Goa, 2023, where 8 boys’ and 8 girls’ teams captivated audiences, ALFI, with 10 completed Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior National Championships, received enthusiastic feedback from participants keen on propagating Lagori in schools.

President of Lagori Association Of Arunachal Pradesh, Sunday Cheri, underscored the sport’s simplicity and cultural relevance, urging collective efforts for its preservation. He highlighted government backing, with Minister Of Sport Mr. Mama Natung and Chief Minister Mr. Pema Khandu actively championing sports in Arunachal Pradesh.

Cheri also noted the participation of India’s Minister of Earth and Science, Mr. Kiren Rijiju, in a Lagori event, emphasizing governmental support for traditional sports. The workshop’s success signifies a united front in Arunachal Pradesh to revive and safeguard the cultural heritage embedded in Lagori.
