Rabies Outbreak Alert in Jullang, Chimpu: Urgent Measures Initiated

Naharlagun, September 15: The Government of Arunachal Pradesh, through the District Surveillance Officer in Itanagar Capital Complex, has issued an urgent alert regarding a confirmed case of rabies in the Jullang area, near Don Bosco College in capital complex

The victim, identified as an 18-year-old male resident of Jullang, was admitted to TRIHMS with classical symptoms of rabies on September 14, 2023. According to hospital records, he had been a first year student at Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar.

The concerning aspect of this case is that he had been bitten by a two-month-old puppy in July 2023 but had not received any Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) since the incident. The puppy, which was not vaccinated, sadly succumbed to the disease a few days after the bite.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any potential rabies exposure to the local authorities promptly. This serves as a reminder and an awareness to the population of the importance of timely vaccination in cases of animal bites to prevent rabies transmission.

The Government of Arunachal Pradesh, along with health authorities, is taking all necessary measures to address this rabies outbreak and ensure the safety of the community.
