Rajghar Ali Welcome Gate Dismantled: Locals Seek Traditional Replacement

ITANAGAR, AUG 24: The Papum Pare district administration on Thursday morning dismantled a welcome gate that had posed a threat to commuters and vehicles for the past few years. Balijan ADC and ADM Dr. Marchia Boria informed the media that the gate, constructed a few years back, had become hazardous, causing accidents for heavy vehicles such as trailers passing through it.

Incidents of accidents had been reported to the police and administration earlier, both in written and verbal complaints. Despite an executive order a few days ago, the process of dismantling had not materialized due to the search for an agency. In light of public safety, another executive order was issued, leading to the gate’s removal to prevent any future untoward incidents.

A traffic advisory was also released, and police personnel were deployed to manage traffic during the dismantling process.

Dr. Bora mentioned receiving requests for a proposal for a new, beautiful gate. She expressed her commitment to ensuring the matter is taken up by the administration, with the proposal sent to higher authorities for consideration.

Meanwhile, local leaders and members of the public in the area have appealed to both the local administration and the Papum Pare district administration. They have urged for the construction of a new welcome gate that not only captures the traditional essence but also represents the rich cultural heritage of the tribal society in the region.

Former ZPM Tana Puna Tara has specifically appealed to local MLA Tana Hali Tara and Chief Minister Pema Khandu. He has urged them to recognize the importance of having a welcome gate at Rajghar Ali, Hollongi, which should be deeply rooted in tradition and cultural significance.
