NAHARLAGUN, DEC 11 : The traffic congesant is one of the important issues of Naharlagun township and it would only be reduced if the two bridges one at Dam site and another at G Extension construction began and completed into double lane.
Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom who after carrying out inspection of the site of construction of all the bridges including both the bridge in Naharlagun township informed that the four lane road construction of NH-415 which is passing through the centre of the town has already begun and is in progress. The flyover would be constructed from Papaunallah to Konkarnalla measuring around 4 KM. Smooth traffic movement would also be affected once the work progress was taken up in war footing. For that period the main arterial road and circular road and bridge would play a vital role for decongestant of the traffic of various colony, sectors and other areas which lead to the National Highway. It is therefore important that bridges one like the double lane arch bridge near helipad, railway bridge near Lekhi/Borum and the two bridges one at G Extension and another at Damsite are completed. He said.
I am happy to know that the finishing works of Arch bridge near the helipad is being done while the construction of the railway bridge is in progress and it was announced in the district level monitoring level committee meeting held recently. Government is giving stress on the bridge connecting Lekhi to Borum,
Dismantling of both bridge of G Extension has been done and another is also in progress and two meetings have been done on both the bridge with PWD Naharlagun officers. He said.
Once both bridge is completed the commuters of several colony sectors without going to the national highway can directly go out of town. I have requested the PWD Naharlagun division to start and expedite the construction work. DC Potom added.
When contacted the Naharlagun PWD Division sources informed that the bridge of Damsite is for replacement of Steel Bailey Bridge with double lane RCC Bridge of 20mtr Span, The existing single lane steel bailey bridge was weak by long run and proposed for replacement by double lane RCC steel girder bridge to ease the traffic conjunction on this route. This proposed double lane bridge is very important as this is the only road connectivity to the newly settled area on the left bank of Damsite river. The PWD Executive Engineer Tana Nikum Tara said.
The work was sanctioned by the Govt. under De-congestion programme of Capital Complex under CMCSRDP amounting to Rs. Rs. 418.00 Lakh and awarded through tender in 2020. The work could not be started in time due to Covid-19 pandemic, but the fabrication work of Steel Girder Superstructure was completed and stacked in the fabrication site. Now, in order to start the foundation and abutment work, the ground work started by shifting of utilities such as Electric pole, dismantling of public/ private structures on the access of the bridge approaches, temporary diversion of traffic, dismantling of existing steel bailey bridge superstructure. The target set for completion of the bridge and open for traffic movement by September 2023. The EE said.
