1 died 8 injured in a bridge collapse incident in West Kameng district

ITANAGAR, MARCH 28 : One died and eight workers received severe injuries in a bridge collapse incident in Kalaktang area of West Kameng district of West Kameng on Sunday afternoon. Most of the injured have been evacuated and shifted to Guwahati and Kalaktang CHC for further treatment, an official said.

West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki while confirming the incident informed that 1 person has died and several injured at the bridge site. Several workers of a contractor were there on the unserviceable bridge site in Kalaktang sub-division. Necessary formalities were done and even legal action is being initiated.

SP West Kameng Bharat Reddy informed that an information was received regarding collapse of an old iron bridge near army Transit camp (Dusum Tsanga) and several workers had been injured in the said incident.

A team of police of Kalaktang Police station visited the spot and helped in getting first hand medical treatment at Kalaktang CHC to the person injured. One person has died on the spot and eight other sustained severe injuries. The injured were evacuated to the Kalaktang CHC and further to Guwahati for treatment. SP said.

Based on a written complaint a case has been registered and investigation has been launched for further necessary action. SP said.

As per information the workers of a contractor Lobsang Khedup of Jung under Kalaktang PWD sub-division were dismantling the said old and unserviceable iron bridge  near Army transit camp Kalaktang on Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga road (OKSRT) in West Kameng district. Suddenly the bridge collapsed and all the labourers working under the bridge sustained injuries and one person died on spot. The deceased has been identified as Tsangpa, 38 years, s/o Lt. Phuntso Dorjee, village-Karsa, PO & PS-Jung, district-Tawang who succumbed to the injuries on the spot and three other persons including contractor has been evacuated to Guwahati for further treatment and rest five has been treated at Kalaktang. He said.

In this regard a case of negligence has been registered vide Kalaktang police station no- KTG 02/22 u/s-337, 338, 304(A) IPC is being investigated. SP added.
