Work on both Nichipu and Sela tunnels on BCT road on war footing

NICHIPU, 28 Mar: The 500 metre long Nichipu tunnel here under the West Kameng district will be completed by August 15 next. Informing this project manager Utsav Talabia of the Nichipu tunnel project informed the media here on Monday that an effort is being made to complete the tunnel by August 15.

As of now around 15 meter of civil work is still remaining on other portions. Right now, waterproofing membrane has been put and final finishing work is getting readied,” he said. The Nichipu tunnel project started in March 2020 by Dhorajia projects LLP by BRO is part of the BCT highway project and the work. Once completed it is expected to reduce the travel time between Bhalukpong and Bomdila by 7 KM.

The required man and machine has been deployed and are working round the clock.

“The breadth of the tunnel is 12 meters and height are 10 meters with a double-lane road and will have a drain, waterproofing, and firefighting system,” informed the Project Manager.

The other Sela pass tunnel is also under execution by BRO measuring around 600 mtrs and it will also reduced a distance of around 8 KM and has been inspect by Union minister for Law & Justice on Saturday March 26 2022. 

“ The union minister in his twitter handle said that “ He has interacted with the engineers and project officer to know the update and status of the project. Rijiju lauded the workers and engineers working tirelessly even in tough conditions and the Sela tunnel is nearing completion”.  ” Once it is completed it would be a massive infrastructure development in the border area”. Rijiju added.

Once both the tunnels are completed in all respects and later will be handed over to the defense, the road will be opened and made for public use. Both tunnels will reduce a distance of around 15 KM on Balipara-Charduar-Tawang road (BCT).
