AEDMA Conclave in Itanagar Explores Digital Media’s Role in Social Change and Election Ethics

ITANAGAR, Jul 29: The Arunachal Electronic & Digital Media Association (AEDMA), to commemorate its 11th foundation day, organized a conclave with the theme, ‘Digital media as a catalyst for social change’, in collaboration with Department of Information & Public Relation (IPR) at state banquet hall near here on Saturday.

The conclave included discussions on money culture in elections and the contentious Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014 a boon or bane.

Addressing the gathering, AEDMA President JT Tagam said that the association every year, to mark the foundation day, has been organizing workshops on media ethics for the digital media journalists working across the state. However, this year the AEDMA decided to do something beyond the horizon of workshops and seminars by conducting a media conclave.

He said that the state is in a transition phase and is reeling under various issues at present. Though the media has the power to mould and shape the thoughts and perception of people, the onus lies on every media person to inform the people with facts and figures, irrespective of print or digital media.

“The conclave is also to sensitize our young and budding journalists on certain issues that the state is going through. The money culture during elections, and the contentious APUAPA is something that needs more discussion, hence the conclave. Moreover, the discussion will also empower the journalists with in-depth knowledge of the role of media while covering any issues as discussed during the conclave,” he said.

Meanwhile, AEDMA General Secretary Sangge Droma presided over the first session of the discussion on the topic, ‘Money culture in election’. The discussion was participated by ACCI Secretary General Toko Tatung, former AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai, and Wing Commander (Retd) Gyati Kago.

Likewise, the second session was moderated by AEDMA President JT Tagam and participated by Sub Editor of Arunachal Times Bengia Ajum, BJP Spokesperson Dominic Tadar, APCC Vice President Mina Toko and HRLN member Adv. Ebo Mili.

Among others, Arunachal Press Club (APC) General Secretary Damien Lepcha, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) General Secretary Sonam Jelly, AEDMA General Secretary cum organizing Secretary Sangge Droma and representatives from various media houses participated in the event.
