Alo Libang condemned the burning of Gonpa, and demanded immediate arrest of the culprit

ITANAGAR, The health minister Alo Libang has condemned the recent incident of torching a gonpa at Riwotala under Tuting sub-division in the Upper Siang district. Libang who is also a local MLA said he is in regular touch with DC and SP.

“Investigation is going on full swing. I hope the culprits will be arrested soon. A police team is visiting the place of occurrence for further investigation,” said minister Libang.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, he said places of worship should be respected. “No one should damage a place of worship like this. Strict punishment should be given to the culprits,” he added. The minister further said he is in touch with local Buddhist leaders/Panchayat leaders and party leaders and claims that the situation is under control.

I have requested that the law enforcing agency has been asked to nab the miscreants as soon as possible and punished as per law. At the same time he appealed to all to keep calm and said that let the law take its own course of action. Libang added. 

When contacted the Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Tapir Pada said that the district police is conducting the investigation, no one has been arrested so far.  As of now there is no law and order issue and the area and district is peaceful. A case has been registered and the police are investigating the matter. Pada added.

It is to mention that a Gonpa erected at Riwotala at the scared pilgrimage site of Buddhist community in Upper Siang district  has been burnt down by unidentified miscreants on October 25. The Memba welfare society and Khamba welfare society have condemned the incident which has hurt the sentiment of the believers.  

Widespread condemnation has been received. A peaceful march was also carried out in the district demanding immediate arrest of the miscreant responsible for the arson of the gonpa and and punishment thereof.
