ITANAGAR, May 5: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) chairperson Kenjum Pakam has raised several issues relating to women and children before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi.
Pakem met the NCW chief Rekha Sharma during her maiden visit to the national capital today.
Pakam discussed how women were victimised by the practice polygamy that led to domestic violence.
She emphasised that awareness should be created on sexual harassment in schools and colleges.
They also discussed measures on how to prevent gender inequality in the society by imparting awareness through special curriculum to the girl child on menstrual hygiene, safety measures, crime against women to the children at grassroots level.
While supporting the issues raised by chairperson Pakam, the NCW chairperson assured that she would visit Arunachal Pradesh and try to implement a rule that would include an awareness class for school students once a month and teach them about the POCSO Act 2012 and other relevant laws.
The APSCW chairperson is scheduled to attend a training session on May 6 with the NCW, New Delhi.
