Capital dwellers to face drinking water supply for more than a week

ITANAGAR,  MAY 19: The capital dwellers to face drinking water supply for next one week as the main supply pipeline from Poma river intake pints has been badly damaged due to torrential rain and soil erosion. Informed PHED Itanagar Division Tadar Mangku.

Mangku inform that the main water supply line of 450 mm dia feeding drinking water supply to Itanagar township has been dislodged due to soil erosion caused by in acessent torrential rainfall at Rillo-Moin village this morning, i.c 19/05/2021, thereby disrupting the water supply catering 11MLD of water to the Itanagar township. And most part of the capital city would be affected and may not be able to deliver the water supply to their tape. He said.

 The men and machinery have been deployed for early restoration, however it will take 7 (seven) days to restore the water supply line subject to weather conditions. As of now around twenty workers and linemen and 4 junior engineers with as Assistant engineer and myself is supervising the restoration of the supply line in the area. Mangku said.

We are planning to provide drinking water supply with the help of water tankers. In the meantime the water tanker of PHED shall be pressed into services where ever is required and the affected areas.  

Mangku however has appealed to the denizens of Itanagar township to have patience and bear with the inconvenience during this period.

As per information the stocked water in tanks in various parts of the city may meet up on Thursday but for rest days of the week have to depend on rainwater or  to tap the rain water which may be utilized for various purposes including drinking and other purposes.

Sources inform that few important installations may receive water supply from Senkiveiw water treatment plant with minimum speed and volume and also for emergency purposes.
