Local constructed traditional wire rope suspension bridge near Rottung village

PANGIN, July 18: The local people of Pangin and Kebang circles using aged old traditional techniques and methods have constructed a 30 metre wire rope suspension bridge near Rottung within four days without any help from the state govt.

The sources informed that along the side of recently collapsed road portion of Pangin-Pasighat Highway near Rottung, a wire rope suspension bridge has been constructed by villagers  of Pangin and Kebang circles using aged old traditional techniques and methods within four days without any help from the state govt.

The 30 meters (approx) bridge will ease the woes of people of Siang, West Siang, Shi-Yomi and Upper Siang districts till the highway is restored properly. The footpath bridge will now shorten the travel time of the commuters. They  need not to climb the hilly track that takes around 1 hour to reach the other side, Lelek Bridge Construction Committee chairman Tagum Sitang said.

Sitang said initially the authority including district administration and the  highway department had objected to construction of any structure nearby the block point but the senior  public seeing the agony of the commuters had to initiate and construct the bridge.

Pasighat (East) MLA and Advisor UD & Municipal Affairs Kaling Moyong who visited the block point, had appreciated the efforts of the villagers for coming up voluntarily for the bridge construction on self help basis.

He also assured to take up the road blockade matters with the chief minister and union ministry along with the legislators of Siang belt.

Moyong said discussion will also be held for alternative solutions and appealed to the public not to claim any compensation incase decision for new road construction is taken.

BJP Siang District Unit president Tapang Tamut expressed serious concern over the delay of restoration works.

Tamut said the district has been reeling under serious  trouble due to road blockade at Sanggam and Lelek point.

ABK Rotgong Block Secretary John Jamoh said the highway  department is neglecting the area as it has not even initiated an inch for the restoration works till date.

Kebang ZPM Topi Jerang who submitted a memorandum to Moyong  on behalf of three ZPMs said the area has been cut off from the rest of the world and people are facing untold miseries in terms of shortages of essential commodities,  medical emergencies and worsening economic conditions.

She appealed to the state govt for immediate restoration of NH 13 at Lelek block point along with construction of road through Rottung.

Pangin ZPM Oyar Muang appealed for the functioning of helicopter service for medical emergencies at least thrice in a week.

Muang appealed to the state govt to start restoration works without waiting for any official procedures.

Among others Nugong ZPM, Nani Taki, Siang  ZPC Osi Mibang, East Siang ZPC Olen Rome, BJP Pangin Mandal president Taloko Darang were present. Sources said.

Even more than 20 days after the road was disrupted, the highway department is yet to start the restoration works of the road portion at Lelek point. Sources said.

The under-construction alternative road from Rottung to Yene Camp (20 Mile) via Damuk WRC area will take 2/3 months to complete. The sources added.
