Bichom District inaugurated: CM Pema Khandu celebrates Decades-Long aspiration fulfilled

NAFRA, March 7, 2024 – Chief Minister Pema Khandu, alongside Union Minister for Earth Science Kiren Rijiju, inaugurated the newly formed Bichom district today, fulfilling a demand persisting since 1984. The ceremony included the symbolic transfer of responsibilities to Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar, IAS, and Superintendent of Police Sudhanshu Dhama, IPS, with the laying of the district headquarters foundation at Napangphung.

Acknowledging the efforts of MLAs and the Bichom District Demand Committee, Khandu assured infrastructure support for the new district. The creation of Bichom district, facilitated by the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is expected to enhance accessibility to far-flung areas and drive economic development for Miji, Sajolang, Aka (Koro), and Puroik communities.

Notably, 27 villages from West Kameng and 28 from East Kameng will be integrated into Bichom district, and Khandu rectified a village omission through an Ordinance. The Chief Minister also flagged off vehicles under the Arunachal Grameen Express Yojana, inaugurated numerous projects, and marked milestones in various initiatives, fostering development and welfare across the region.
