Foundation Stone Laid for Central Zone Divisional Commissioner Office in Basar

BASAR, March 6 – Chief Minister Pema Khandu marked a historic day for the central Arunachal region by laying the foundation stone for the Divisional Commissioner (Central Zone) office at Basar in Leparada district. The newly established Central Division office, headquartered at Pagi, will oversee governance in five districts: Upper Subansiri, Shi-Yomi, West Siang, Leparada, and Lower Siang.

In a public ceremony, Khandu officially handed over the notification to senior IAS officer Amjad Tak, who is set to assume the role of Divisional Commissioner, Central Zone. Addressing the crowd, the Chief Minister celebrated the fulfillment of a demand voiced by the community during his visit on December 6, 2022.

Khandu emphasized that the establishment of the Divisional Commissioner office aims to bring governance closer to the people, ensuring enhanced administration and regional development. He acknowledged the genuine demand, endorsed by MLAs from the five districts, as they were previously under the jurisdiction of the Divisional Commissioner, Western Zone, based in Yachuli.

The Chief Minister pledged full support from the state government for the necessary infrastructure at Pagi, where the Divisional Office will be strategically located. Additionally, responding to requests, Khandu expressed intent to explore possibilities for establishing the offices of Central Zone DIGP and Chief Engineer (PWD) in Basar.

The event also saw the Chief Minister laying the foundation stone for seven projects and inaugurating 29 others, signifying a commitment to comprehensive regional development. Dignitaries present at the occasion included Speaker P D Sona, Minister Industries Tumke Bagra, and various MLAs, among others.
