APWWS Empowers Women with Legal Awareness Program in Likor Village

The Yingkiong branch of the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society successfully organized a one-day legal awareness program at Likor village, Upper Siang, on 18/12/23. Collaborating with the District Administration, DLSA, and the Department of Women and Child Development, the event focused on the theme “Know Your Rights and Fight for Your Rights.” Sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women, Itanagar, the initiative aims to empower women with knowledge about their legal rights.

The Chairperson of APSCW, Ms. Kenjum Pakam, and Ms. Komna Moidam, Member APSCW, who arrived in Yingkiong on Sunday, actively participated in the program at Likor village. Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Ms. Pakam emphasized the significance of women empowerment, gender equality, female education, health, hygiene, discouraging polygamy, and the mandatory registration of marriage. Despite residing in remote villages like Likor, she stressed that every woman should be aware of their legal rights and privileges.

Ms. Komna Moidam, Member APSCW, also spoke about the role and responsibilities of APSCW, underlining their commitment to supporting and advocating for women’s rights.

Distinguished resource persons contributed to the program, with Inspector Koyu shedding light on the POCSO Act, Ms. Tupi Bagra, CDPO Tuting, addressing the Domestic Violence Act, Ms. Damini Tali, Clinical Psychologist, DH Yingkiong, discussing Drug Abuse, and Ms. Kosiang Pangkam focusing on Socio-economic development of women.

The success of this event has paved the way for similar awareness programs scheduled in Mopom, Katan, and Pongging villages, further extending the reach of legal knowledge and empowerment among women in Arunachal Pradesh.
