Arunachal’s first Everester Tapi Mra goes missing

NAHARLAGUN, Aug 29: The first Arunachalee to conquer Mount Everest, Tapi Mra, who was on an official mission to explore Mount Kyarisatam, one of the highest peaks of Arunachal Pradesh, has remained missing for the last 7 days.

The news has been confirmed by Sports Minister Mama Natung.

“Dept of SYA, GoAP is constantly in touch with @dcseppa & ready with all strategic plans to trace out Sri Tapi Mra; Adventure Promotion Officer who’s been reportedly missing with a porter since last week during expedition to #Mt_Khyarisattam in #EastKameng Dist,” Minister Natung wrote on his Twitter handle today.

The mountaineering associations have requested Chief Minister Pema Khandu to extend support for tracing Mra.

According to reports, 37-year-old Mra climbed Mount Everest on May 21, 2009.

Vijoy Sonam, the president of Paragliding Association of Arunachal Pradesh and Sika Gapak, the Mountaineering Association of Arunachal Pradesh in a report said efforts are on to trace Mra, who is the secretary general of the mountaineering association.

Sonam, who has rushed to East Kameng district headquarters Seppa in search of Mra informed that a person from the Puroik tribe had accompanied Mra for summiting Mount Kyarisatam while his five porters are waiting in the base camp.

The news about his going missing was given by two Puroik porters, a father and son, who had returned to Seppa on Sunday.

Sonam has requested Chief Minister Pema Khadu to send a National Disaster Response Team to search for and rescue the mountaineer.

He also urged inhabitants of Puroik villages on the remote hill tracts of the district to help in the search operation for Mra.
