Bribery Case: CBI arrested PGCIL ED- Itanagar BS Jha and 5 Senior Officials from Tata Projects

New Delhi/ Naharlagun, Jul 07:  The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) Executive Director (ED) BS Jha who has posted in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh along with five officials of Tata Projects has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged bribery to favour the private company.

The news circulating on national media says that the CBI has arrested BS Jha, ED of Power Grid Corporation of India and five senior officials of Tata Projects, including Executive vice president (VP) Deshraj Pathak and assistant VP RN Singh, on bribery charges.

Jha, who was posted in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh was under the surveillance of CBI during which the agency got input that he was allegedly receiving bribes from the executives of Tata Projects and other companies for granting favours. During searches at Jha’s place in Gurugram, CBI unearthed Rs 93 lakh from his residence. A total of 11 different places at NCR and other areas were searched, as per sources.

Tata Projects was given the contracts under World Bank-funded North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project, a comprehensive scheme for improving the power infrastructure of the region, they said. The company was working on the Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh regions under the scheme.

After the arrest the Tata project said in a Statement, “We adhere to strong norms in all our business transactions and have zero tolerance for any compromise on the same. We would extend our complete support to the relevant authorities.”
