Capital Police Crack Down on Two-Wheeler Theft: 4 Arrested, 9 Two-Wheelers Recovered, 4 Cases Solved

Itanagar, July 10: – In a major breakthrough, the Capital Police have successfully busted a gang involved in a series of two-wheeler thefts that have been plaguing our city in recent weeks. Their efforts have resulted in the arrest of four individuals and the recovery of nine stolen two-wheelers. Moreover, this operation has led to the resolution of four cases related to these thefts.

It all began when an FIR was lodged at Itanagar Police Station on June 22. The complaint detailed the theft of a Scooty with the registration number AR 02-8640 from C-Sector the previous night. Just a few days later, on June 25, another Scooty bearing the registration number AR-01N-4242 was reported stolen from Jollang during the late hours.

In response to the rising number of two-wheeler thefts, SDPO Itanagar, Kamdam Sikom, took decisive action and formed a special team comprising officers from different ranks and even enlisted the help of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This dedicated team, led by Pawan Kr. Yadav, IPS (Prob), and OC PS ITA, included inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables.

The team tirelessly worked on the case, employing a variety of tactics such as carefully analyzing CCTV footage, conducting nighttime surveillance, and gathering information from local sources. After days of relentless efforts, their hard work paid off as they managed to apprehend three individuals identified as Tago Takang (18 yrs), Nabam Deram (18 yrs), and Karte Sangdo (18 yrs). Additionally, they apprehended one juvenile in connection with the case. During subsequent investigations, the police successfully recovered eight Scooties and one bike from ICR, Barajuli (Assam), and Sootea (Assam).

The gang had a specific method of operation. They targeted vehicles parked in poorly lit public areas that lacked proper safety devices. Under the cover of darkness, they committed the thefts and disposed of the stolen vehicles in remote locations to evade detection.

With the successful arrests and recoveries, the police were able to solve four cases, namely ITA PS C.N 137/23 u/s 379/34 IPC, ITA PS C.N 141/23 u/s 379/34 IPC, Chimpu PS C.N 32/23 u/s 380 IPC, and Papu Hills PS C.N 42/23 u/s 379 IPC. The investigation team is continuing to interrogate the suspects in order to gather more information and potentially solve additional theft cases reported across various police stations in the ICR region.

The Capital Police extend their sincere gratitude to the public for their cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation. They urge citizens to remain vigilant and take appropriate security measures to safeguard their vehicles.
