Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to inaugurate Siyom Bridge today

Itanagar, Jan 2: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is scheduled to inaugurate the strategically important Siyom Bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district, reached Mohanbari, Dibrugarh on Monday evening on a two-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He will pass the night at the Mohanbari Air Force base and will leave for Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday morning, informed sources said.

The Defence Minister will inaugurate the 100-metre-long steel arch bridge over river Siyom and virtually launch 27 other infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) from the bridge site. He will also release the BRO Vision and New Tech Handbook and will hold interaction with locals, official sources said.

The scheduled inauguration of the strategically important Siyom Bridge comes in less than a month after the Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed near Tawang along the Line of Actual Control.

Built by the BRO’s Project Brahmank, the 100-metre-long steel arch Siyom bridge on the Along(Aalo)-Yingkiong road will be of great significance not only for the people of the region but also for the defence forces as it would facilitate the movement of heavy artillery and defence forces along the India-China border.

Earlier, taking to Twitter, the Defence Minister wrote: “Leaving New Delhi for Dibrugarh on a two day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Shall attend the inaugural ceremony of several infrastructure projects constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in seven border States. Looking forward to it.”

“28 infrastructure projects that have been completed by Border Roads Organisation at a cost of Rs 724.3 Cr will be dedicated to the Nation by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh from Siyom Bridge site in Arunachal Pradesh at 11 AM on 03 Jan 2023,” read a tweet from the Shillong-based PRO of the Ministry of Defence.
