Deputy Chief Minister Initiates Hydropower Reform in Arunachal Pradesh

In a significant move towards harnessing the hydropower potential of Arunachal Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein met with the Governor of the state, Lt. General KT Parnaik, at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on 25th July 2023. The meeting primarily focused on discussions related to hydropower, investments, and e-governance.

During the meeting, Chowna Mein apprised the Governor about the recent initiative taken by the State Government to boost the development of hydropower projects. To expedite the progress of large hydropower projects, which were previously lagging under private developers, the state government has identified four central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) to take over these projects. This strategic decision was made after extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including the Government of India (GOI).

The Governor praised the Deputy Chief Minister for this proactive approach and expressed his optimism regarding the successful implementation of the hydropower projects in the state. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing the power scenario of Arunachal Pradesh, which will not only boost the state’s economy but also contribute to the overall energy security of the country.

Apart from the hydropower initiatives, the Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio for economics and statistics, discussed the pressing need for advancing e-governance in the state. The Governor called for the automation of data at District, Circle, and Village levels to facilitate efficient planning and execution of developmental projects and programs. By digitizing information, the state aims to improve the overall governance structure, enabling better service delivery and transparency.

The meeting between the Deputy Chief Minister and the Governor signifies a proactive approach towards tackling crucial issues like energy development and governance in Arunachal Pradesh. With the state government’s focus on hydropower projects and advancements in e-governance, Arunachal Pradesh is poised to witness significant progress and growth in the coming years.
