Fierce Fire Engulfs Pumao Village in Longding District, Leaving Families Devastated

LONGDING: In a tragic incident that unfolded yesterday, Pumao village in Longding district was ravaged by a fierce fire, resulting in the complete destruction of four families’ homes. The incident, which occurred at noon, left the families in shock and despair as their cherished possessions were reduced to ashes.

The fire rapidly spread through the closely erected traditional wooden houses, exacerbated by the absence of the residents who were attending to their farm duties at the time. The flames intensified quickly, causing extensive damage before emergency responders and the fire brigade could arrive from the nearest town, Longding, located 25 kilometers away. Initial investigations suggest that an electrical malfunction might have triggered the devastating blaze.

The consequences of this devastating incident extend far beyond the physical destruction. The wooden structures housed numerous artifacts and traditional inventories that held immense cultural and historic significance. These items included heirlooms, artwork, tools, and other valuable possessions that had been passed down through generations, serving as tangible connections to the community’s rich heritage. The loss of these irreplaceable items is not only deeply distressing to the affected families but also to the entire community.

Among the victims, Shri. Puchoi Wangpan suffered a significant loss as his house, which also functioned as the Baptist Youth Mission office, was consumed by the flames. In addition to personal belongings, all the documents, records, valuable inventories, and cash were destroyed. Another victim, Shri Atoh Wangpan, lost not only his family’s belongings but also all the inventories and cash belonging to the self-help group of their colony.

In the face of this tragedy, the Circle Officer of Pumao, Shri. Bini Shiva, responded promptly, offering much-needed relief and support to the affected individuals and families. As news of the incident spread throughout the community, an outpouring of support and solidarity began to emerge. Local organizations and concerned citizens have come together to provide assistance to those affected by the fire, offering solace in this challenging time.

While the loss of their homes and treasured belongings is undoubtedly disheartening, the affected families are focusing on the silver lining—the preservation of life. They understand that possessions can be replaced, but the safety and well-being of their loved ones are paramount.

Inspired by their resilience, the general public of Pumao circle has appealed to the government to establish a fire relief service at Pumao village and every circle headquarters as a precautionary measure for future emergencies. This proactive step would help protect lives and mitigate the devastating consequences of such incidents.

As the community bands together to support the affected families and advocate for preventative measures, it is hoped that Pumao village will recover from this tragic incident and rebuild its homes and heritage with strength and unity.
