IGP Chukhu Apa appealed to the parents to take care of their wards so that they were not involved in any drug addiction cases

ITANAGAR, SEPT 9 : The Inspector general of Police (IGP) Law & Order Chukhu Apa on Friday morning appealed to all the parents to take care of their childrens for their good health and bright future to lead a happy life with all family and friends and relatives.

Apa was speaking to media on the occasion of inauguration of “ Anti drug corner” at Itanagar police station for mass awareness among the public and society. he inform that drug menace is becoming like pandemic and it can only be eradicated from the society if all stakeholders come together and join hands in fight against the drug addiction among our childrens and to completely eradicate form the society. It is  a challenging task and the Arunachal Pradesh police (APP) has waged war against drugs and each and every policeman of the state has been involved in the fight. Action is being initiated against all those even in uniform and in civil society or individuals of groups. Said IGP.

Today an Anti Drug corner has been inaugurated at Itanagar police station with a motto to create awareness among the people who want to get rehabilitation and get out of the drug addiction and also wants that someone who are known to them need help but in other case many people do not want to approach directly to police due to stigma but this corner will take care and the people dealing with the case will humanly approach them and dealt them and facilitate them. Accordingly the officers dealing with the drug will help and support the people and the family members so that they can get out of such an addiction which has ruined the family. The drug addiction is making the family economically weak. In some cases the persona involved in drug addiction created law and order problems and also created lots of problems and damaged the peace and tranquility of a family so time has come everyone needs to help and support the movement. The capital police is a law enforcing agency that has intensified action against the drug peddlers/traffickers and have put every possible effort to arrest and prosecute them legally since 2021. A total of 74 cases have been registered under NDPS Act and 156 persons arrested. He said.

In an adopt a humanitarian approach and the move extend helping hands to those addicted to drugs who are willing to undergo rehabilitation and de-addiction programmes, the capital police has started the anti drug corner in every police station of the capital complex from today onwards to provide awareness and information about rehabilitation and de-addiction programme in various rehabilitation centres. He said.

In view of the fact that not all violators of the NDPS Act are peddlers, many youngsters who are addicted to drugs are willing to overcome addiction, however many of them have no awareness of de-addiction/rehabilitation programmes. The police and drug users are perceived and seen as in conflict with each other. We believe that mutual cooperation between each other can go a long way in the fight against illicit drugs. Said IGP. 

A dedicated helpline number has been started to facilitate the drug addicts and their families in getting aforesaid and proper information. Added IGP Chukhu Apa.

Capital SP Jimmy Chiram, ASP, SDPO and officer in charge of several police stations of capital complex and other police officers of capital complex were present on the occasion.
