Itanagar’s Biological Park: A green oasis emerges with Eco-Tourism vision

Itanagar, December 5: A transformative vision is taking root in the heart of Itanagar as the 6th Governing Board Meeting of the Zoo Society unfolded plans for a sprawling forest wonderland. Chaired by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (Environment, Forests & Climate Change), the meeting held at the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change office charted a course for scientific park management and ecotourism promotion.

Encompassing a vast 250 hectares, the Biological Park in Itanagar, adorned with tropical semi-evergreen forests, promises a biodiverse retreat within the capital region. Beyond its rich flora and fauna, the park was recognized for enhancing the health and well-being of Itanagar residents.

A pivotal strategy discussed involved the creation of an ecotourism circuit linking the Biological Park, Ganga Lake, Poma riverine belt, and the unique Bamboosetum of Chessa. This initiative not only showcases the region’s natural splendor but also champions sustainable tourism practices.

Local involvement takes center stage, as the plan aims to generate employment for the youth and contribute to additional income. Celebrating recent arrivals of 2 Tigers and 3 Gharials, the meeting expressed aspirations to introduce Rhinos into the Biological Park soon.

Eco-conscious endeavors were underscored with a proposal to introduce E-vehicles within the zoo premises. This move, touted as a unique achievement for Arunachal Pradesh, aligns with a commitment to providing visitors with a pollution-free experience.

The meeting concluded on a high note, extending gratitude to the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, members, and special invitees of the Zoo Society of Biological Park. This marks a promising stride towards a greener, sustainable future for Itanagar.
