State media felicitates Sangno, President APUWJ for receiving State Gold medal

ITANAGAR, Feb 16: Amar Sangno, the president of the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) was felicitated by the state media fraternity for receiving the ‘state gold medal’ award for his sustained dedication and commitment towards promoting freedom of the free press in the state during the 74th Republic Day Celebration.

Sangno will be officially receiving the award on the statehood day celebration on February 20 next here. The felicitation programme was organized by APUWJ and Arunachal Press Club (APC) at the press club here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Sangno said that the recognition by the state government for his work is something that brings more responsibility to him. And, to achieve such recognition one has to be dedicated and true to the profession. Moreover, a journalist should stick to media ethics and act upon it in the true sense.

Sangno said that the recognition could not be achieved without the support of the members of the working journalists of the state. He dedicated his award to the entire media fraternity and hoped to see more such awards being awarded to budding journalists from the state.

“Any recognition to a journalist by the state government or any recognized organization for his/her work is a huge responsibility. Such recognition inspires as well as shoulders more responsibility to work better in the field of journalism,” he said.

On the sideline, Sangno also informed that the prime concern of any journalist in the state is job security. He said journalism is vulnerable in terms of life and job security, however, he appealed to the entire journalist of the state to carry forward positive works.

He said the APUWJ has been always working for the welfare of the working journalists in the state. There are challenges in the profession and the work of the union but, somehow the union has lived up to the expectation of the journalists.

Appreciating the dedicated welfare work carried forward by Sango for the press body in the state, APC President Dodum Yangfo said that the journalist should take inspiration from him. He said that such recognition to a journalist is something that needs to be earned.

Dodum also informed that reorganization to any journalist from the state is not only decided for their journalism but also includes other activities that are for the welfare of the media fraternity.

Meanwhile, APUWJ General Secretary Sonam Jelly, APC Vice President Bengia Ajum, and APC General Secretary Damien Lepcha congratulated Sangno for the well-deserved recognition and wish him the best for all his future endeavors, especially in the field of journalism.
