Stop illegal earth cutting or ready to face legal action: DC Talo Potom

ITANAGAR, Jun 7: The deputy commissioner Itanagar capital region (ICR) Talo Potom on Monday informed that persons who carried out illegal earth cutting on Itanagar to Hollongi highway causing massive landslides has been directed to clear the blockade. Potom said illegal earth cutting has become a major menace in the ICR.

“Strong action will be taken against such people. We are exploring possibilities of booking such people under unlawful activities act and have proposed it to the government,” said DC Potom. On Monday DC held a meeting with the engineers of PWD Highway and took stock of the damage caused due to heavy rainfall.

“We reviewed the status of the highway right from Hollongi upto Banderdewa. Necessary instructions have been passed to keep the highway open 24/7,” said DC.

He once again appealed to the people living near the vulnerable places on both bank of rivers/nallah houses below the steep slpe mountain and flood and landslide prone area to move to safer places.

“The rain has been relentless. I urge people to either shift to relief camps set up by district administration at Arunodaya Higher Secondary School, Itanagar, Government Huigher Secondary School, Kankar nallah at Naharlagun, Nyokum hall at Banderdewa or stay with their relatives for some time”. he added.

Potom further said that we are passing though a very critical period and everyone has to remain in alert as the Covid 19 pandemic is on one side and natural calamity on other side so it is necessary that everyone need to remain alert and stay safe and also try to help other during such natural disaster.
