Team Arunachal Shines at the 45th National Arm Wrestling Championship

Team Arunachal emerged victorious in the recently concluded 45th National Arm Wrestling Championship, held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium (SKIS) in Srinagar. The team displayed outstanding skills and determination, securing an impressive tally of 32 medals.

Arunachal Pradesh’s medal haul comprised of 5 golds, 9 silvers, and 18 bronzes, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the sport. The championship, which concluded on Friday, witnessed intense competition among arm wrestlers from across the country.

Leading the charge for Team Arunachal were Pakjar Taipodia, Sang Bodung, Katu Yomcha, and Ibi Lollen, who secured the gold medals in their respective categories. Pakjar Taipodia displayed remarkable prowess, earning two golds and a silver in the Masters and Grand Masters 80 kg Category. Sang Bodung exhibited exceptional talent by claiming a gold, a silver, and a bronze in the highly competitive 60 kg Youth boys’ category.

The team’s success continued with notable silver medalists such as Gejom Padu, Tuge Ame, Laiphu Joham, Toluk Bagra, Kiyir Riba, Yiter Basar Riddi, and Jumbom Lollen Ngomdir. Their exceptional performances in their respective weight categories contributed significantly to Team Arunachal’s overall medal count.

Furthermore, Arunachal Pradesh’s arm wrestlers showcased their skills in the bronze medal matches. Kirba Lollen, Koj Rissang, Dairy Dupak, Kamar Bagra, Janbai Jhomam, Jumbi Yomcha, Dammem Yomcha, Toko Nanda, Jumbi Lollen Ngomdir, Patey Yasuk, and Jumsum Lollen Ete all secured bronze medals in their respective divisions, displaying immense determination and talent.

The stellar performance by Team Arunachal in this national championship not only highlights their commitment to the sport but also underscores the emerging talent in the region. The achievements of these athletes are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the support they receive from the All Arunachal Arm Wrestling Association (AAPAWA).

In a significant development, Smt. Pakjar Taipodia, President of AAPAWA, was appointed as the President of the East India Zone of the Indian Arm Wrestling Federation (IAF) during the general body meeting held on May 23, 2023, at the ongoing championship. This recognition by the IAF acknowledges Smt. Taipodia’s contributions to the sport and her efforts in promoting arm wrestling in the region.

A total of 45 delegates, accompanied by two officials, represented Arunachal Pradesh in this prestigious event. The state’s impressive performance in the 45th National Arm Wrestling Championship sets the stage for future success and further strengthens Arunachal’s position as a powerhouse in the sport.
