DC Conducts Inspection of Four-Lane Road; Package-B and C Agencies Progressing Towards Target

BANDERDEWA, JUNE 1: The Capital Deputy Commissioner, Talo Potom, accompanied by several Heads of Departments, carried out an inspection of the under-construction four-lane road in different sections of the capital complex, especially between Nirjuli and Banderdewa. During the inspection, they interacted with the officers, officials, and authorities involved in the executing agency and provided necessary advice and directions.

DC Capital Potom informed the media that there are no major pending issues in both Package B and C, from Papunallah to Nirjuli and Nirjuli to Banderdewa. A few minor issues have been resolved, and progress is steady without any hindrances.

The executing agency has set milestones and has already crossed the second milestone of 35% completion in May. Package-C has reached around 50% completion, while the agency working on Package-B has also crossed the 35% mark. It is expected that both agencies will continue their work with full manpower and resources, aiming to achieve the third milestone by September.

Regarding the monitoring of the work, DC Potom mentioned that three layers of monitoring are in place. The agency has its own engineers, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has engaged authority engineers to supervise the progress, quality testing, and other works. In addition, officers and engineers from the State Highway Department of Naharlagun division carry out daily inspections. The capital administration also conducts inspections to ensure work progresses smoothly and provides necessary support, security, and resources.

Concerning the construction of a viaduct near the Karsingsa area, a significant number of pillars have been erected. Some of these pillars require road traffic diversion, which may cause inconvenience to commuters. Traffic advisories will be issued, and necessary arrangements will be made by the highway division and police to manage traffic movement in the affected stretch.

Package C involves various scope of works, and it is anticipated that the agency may achieve the second milestone ahead of the target date in September if the progress continues. DC Potom expressed optimism that the entire stretch may be ready for completion before the designated target date.

A plan is underway to construct a beautiful gate at the entrance of Banderdewa, which will be utilized by security personnel and police as a checkpoint with all necessary facilities. The existing checkpoint lacks required amenities and will be dismantled to make way for a new and attractive checkpoint at the same location. Measurements for the new gate have been taken, and the Smart City project will oversee its construction. Although the project was supposed to start earlier, instructions have been given to the Executive Engineer of Smart City to initiate the necessary activities for the new gate at Banderdewa.

Regarding the construction in Package B, DC Potom mentioned that work is progressing, albeit slower due to passing through the city. However, directions have been issued to expedite the work between Jully T-junction and Papunallah T-junction. The map and design for the flyover have been approved, and the agency has been instructed to make necessary arrangements for a service lane along the Naharlagun township.

Works on all four bridges in Package C, as well as the bridges at Borpani, Lagun, and Kankarnalla in Package B, are also progressing. EE Highway Bini Palen confirmed the ongoing progress.
