ITANAGAR, The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), North East LSA conducted a Seminar/Awareness Program on “Electromagnetic Radiations from Mobile Towers and Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP)”. This seminar was held to educate the senior officers who will further create awareness and the consumers and masses.
The seminar was part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations. The seminar was conducted online with physical participation at BSNL conference hall, Sanchar Bhawan, Itanagar by participants from BSNL, BBNL, IT & Communications Department of the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Private TSP representatives, and DOT officer at Itanagar.
Deputy Director General (Compliance), DoT, NE LSA Shillong A.K. Jain, and Sr.DDG, DoT, NE LSA Shillong A.K. Sahu, gave the opening remark and conclusion and brief on the seminar and urge upon the officers to get better information of various cellular services and its activities in the region and country, its activities and try to provide better services to the masses as the consumers have lost of expectation on the technical and officers and officials action for the development of technology in country and competitive world. We should also educate the general consumers of the dos and don’ts of the technology intervention for the betterment of human life.
DDG Mizoram, DoT NE LSA K. Sri Krishna, gave a presentation on “EMF Exposure, Compliance Measures and Status”. It was informed that the radiations from Mobile Towers are
non-ionizing, of a very low level and harmful to human beings based on scientific studies and research conducted worldwide. Moreover in India the norms for EMF radiation from Mobile Towers are ten times more stringent than other countries in the world which follow the ICNIRP guidelines. The compliance of these radiation norms in India by Telecom Service Providers is being monitored’ and ensured by the Department of Telecom through it’s field LSA units and penalty is also being
imposed by DoT on Telecom Service Providers for any violations in the radiation norms. DDG Mizoram added.
It was also informed that subscribers can log into DoT’s “Tarang Sanchar Portal” at www.tarangsanchar.gov.in for complete information on mobile towers across the country and for lodging of complaints if any in regards with EMF radiation from Mobile Towers. Such complaints are being resolved by DoT in coordination with the Telecom Service Providers. He added.
DDG (Compliance), DoT, AP LSA, Vijaywada A. Robert Jerard Ravi, gave a presentation on Telecom Analytics for Fraud management and Consumer Protection (TAF-COP). It was informed that mobile subscribers can soon log into the DoT portal https://tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in to find out the list of mobile nos which are working against their names and also lodge complaint with DoT in case of any unauthorized mobile connections working in their name, issued fraudulently
without their consent. Once a complaint is lodged , then necessary action is taken by DoT through telecom service providers to block/deactivate the unauthorized mobile nos., he said.
Currently this facility is available only to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh consumers but is being extended to the rest of the country including North East in a phased manner. The portal also provides SMS information to consumers in case more than 9 mobile connections are working in their name. He added.
A demonstration of how to use this portal was also given.
Dr.Arun Chougule, Senior Professor & Head Department of Radiological Physics, SMS Medical College & Hospitals, Jaipur, gave a presentation on “Concerns of Health Hazards: Perspective of a Health expert” in which it was explained that as per extensive medical studies conducted world wide over several years, it was found that radiations from Mobile Towers do not have any harmful effect
on human beings as well as plant and animal life.
