One day awareness programme on violation of child rights held at Tuting

Tuting Dec 07: One day awareness programme on violation of child rights conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with District Administration, Women and Child Development Department ICDS Unit Tuting, Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) Tuting and Govt Higher Secondary School, Tuting here at School Auditorium today on 7/12/2022.

       Chairing the programme, Chairperson APSCPCR Gumri Ringu in her keynote address to the participants highlighted the evolution of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, its power and functions and said that Commission has been set up for protection of child rights and children’s courts for providing speedy trial of offenses against children or violation of child rights. 

         Ringu who is on a state-wide tour to all remote areas along with her team  said that the purpose of conducting  awareness at remote areas like Tuting  is to reach out to the people of unreached area and to make people aware of child rights and various provisions of legal protection under APSCPCR.

 Emphasising on making state a safer place for all children, she further said that it is significant to constitute Village Level Child Welfare Committee to oversee protection of child rights and timely report of cases from grassroot level as due to lack of awareness most of the child abuse cases went unreported. She also called upon all people to remain vigilant and know their rights and responsibilities towards making society safer for the children for their better future. Furthermore, she also asked all school children to take full advantage of the programme and know their rights. Along With her team Ringu also visited Gelling, the last Indian village and sensitized the PRI members and locals on child rights and legal provisions. Later on she also visited schools and Aganwadi centres at Tuting.

Resource persons on the occasion APSCPCR Member Shri Niri Chongrowju gave a presentation on the Juvenile Justice Act and its legal framework for protection of children under the act. Shri Ngurang Achung, Member APSCPCR spoke on child labour and RTE. He said that to stop the child abuse cases there should be concerted efforts from all sections of the society and the importance childline toll free number 1098.  Shri Jumtum Minga also elaborated on POCSO Act 2012 and importance of  awareness on sex education, drop box in schools and demerits of drugs to save the lives of future generation. 

      During the programme child abuse docu drama’ ANIYA’ & ‘SCAR’ were also screened to raise awareness on the issue. 

          Earlier, Child Development and Protection officer, ICDS Tuting Smti Tupi Bagra while delivering welcome address, expressed her gratitude to APSCPCR team for organizing such a programme at Tuting and said that an awareness programme was much needed in the area to raise awareness on protection of  child rights and legal provisions. 

         Principal GHSS Tuting  Duhon Tekseng while delivering vote of thanks note  expressed his profound thankful to APSCPCR team and all organizing team  for conducting the programme at  GHSS Tuting and said that it will go a long way in creating awareness among all  school children to make them aware of their rights and duties.
