Informing this the executive engineer, PHE & WS, Itanagar Tadar Mangku shared that once completed the project will somewhat help to meet the growing needs of drinking water and the burden would be reduced to some extent.

“The total requirement of drinking water for Itanagar capital region (ICR) is 57 MLD. At present Itanagar has a 25 MLD supply and has a deficit of 12 MLD. The Naharlagun town at present has an 11 MLD water supply and is facing a deficit of 17 MLD. Senki lift water supply project of 7 MLD under (AMRUT) is part of the effort to ease the improvement of drinking water supply,” said EE Mangku. Further, he shared that the new 3 more drinking water supply projects in ICR are on the verge of completion.

“We have 1 MLD project at Damsite, Naharlagun which is almost on the verge of finishing. Another 1 MLD project at Model village, Naharlagun, and a .5 MLD at Banderdewa are also on the verge of completion,” he added.

The EE also informed that a proposal for 42 MLD from Senki source in Itanagar has been submitted to the state government.

“The state government has announced Rs 30 crore for it in the budget. The DPR is in the final stage. We are also proposing to change the old water supply pipeline in the ICR,” said Mangku.

The PHED is now conducting a household survey as the population of the state capital is growing metrically and household survey and enumeration is necessary so that in case of online payment system can also be developed and system is now being upgraded and enhanced. “I appeal to everyone to cooperate with our officials.

It will help us to gather correct data so that we can prepare a long term plan to meet the growing needs of the drinking water in ICR,”said EE Tadar Mangku.

Even in case of long term plan prepared by the PHED department but the extension of the capital complex and population is increasing abruptly and it is expected that the population of Itanagar is around 147000 and 117000 as per household survey and to enhance the system and augment the system of water supply, everyone has to extend the support and cooperation for strengthening of the water supply system in the entire capital complex. We can also best use the rain water and know about the rain water harvesting system for several purposes and we can start with catching the rain in the commercial for several purposes and we need to best utilise the water and say ‘ Jal hi jivan hai’.  Mangku further said.
