Restoration of water supply to Itanagar may take more time, PHED assured to enhanced tanker

Manoj Singh || ITANAGAR, AUGUST 1 : The restoration work of water supply to Itanagar city may take more time as the man and machine deployed to clear the debris and mudslide from the landside site is still to be cleared. Since the work is in progress and the laying of new alignment is also in progress. PHED official informed.

The major parts of Itanagar city still suffering water supply problems for last more than one month and temporary restoration was done but due to flash flood and landslide the alignment of more than 200 mtrs has been washed away. The restoration was initially done but again on July 7 the major portion of the said stretch again washed away and even the formation also washed away on the same day.  Man and machine has been deployed but the slide is continuously falling and the restoration work has been badly affected. The PHED officer said.

We do understand that during the rainy days people anyhow managing the requirement but due to hot summer the requirement of water goes to many fold and the PHED is trying its best effort to restore the work. The PHED officer said.

If weather condition remain good the Poma water supply line may be restored. The laying of pipeline is in progress and more than ten nos of pipe has been laid and work is in progress but that also depend on the weather condition. he said. 

Since the breakdown of the Poma main water supply line of 400 mm dia and 200 mm dia June 27 and July 7 respectively, the department is supplying water to the various areas of Itanagar from two nos of Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Senki view. Total 11 nos of tankers of PHED and  hire Tata mobile has been pressed into service to provide water supply to various sector like of Ganga area, Vivek VIhar, H Sector, Chimpu, Gopur Tinlai, DNGC and RGGPI and other parts of Itanagar city. He said.

The increasing demand of water in Itanagar has been grown and the with the consultation of higher officer and department authority the nos of Tata mobile has is being increased and form Wednesday onward total nos of water supply tankers will be fiteeen. Said the pHED officer Tamchi Tasung. 

It is to mention that earlier the PHED was supplying water 11 MLD water form Poma and 7 MLD from Senki view WTP but after breakdown of Poma line there s a heavy load on deptt to mitigate the supply and on 7 MLD water was being supplied through existing WTP at Senki view. The newly constructed another WTP at the same venue is completed and waiting for inauguration. In view of the dire need of water supply the new WTP has also been supplying water of 7 MLD to the denizens and the time of delivery has also been increased. 

“The PHED Officer request and appeal the consumers to use their private tanker to fetch water from Senki view WTP for which department will make available water for them if the PHED deployed does not cover or able to reach even they are round the clock under distribution,” He also appealed to the general public where water has dried up due to disruption of pipeline at Poma to cooperate with the department and workers till the permanent restoration of pipeline.
