Rinchin Tashi Assumes Charge as New State Election Commissioner in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, MAY 30: Retired IAS officer Rinchin Tashi has taken up the role of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) in Arunachal Pradesh, assuming office on Tuesday. Tashi’s appointment to the position was made on May 24, filling the vacancy that had existed since August 2022.

Hage Kojeen, the former SEC, concluded his five-year term on August 3 last year, leaving the post vacant. In a move exercising the powers conferred by Article 343K(I) of the Constitution of India and Section 104 of the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1997, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh appointed Rinchin Tashi as the new SEC.

According to the official notification, Tashi’s term will last for five years or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier. Prior to his retirement in September 2022, Tashi served as the Secretary to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in various departments, including Public Health Engineering & Water Supply, DoTCL (Tirap, Changlang and Longding Affairs), and Karmik and Adhyatmik (ChosRig) Affairs from 2019 to 2022. He also held the position of Secretary in the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

With a rich experience of 37 years serving the state in various capacities, Tashi hails from Domkho village in the Kalaktang circle of the West Kameng district. His extensive knowledge and background make him well-equipped to take charge as the new SEC in Arunachal Pradesh.
