TAMWS, AABA condole boxer Techi Maniya’s demise in road mishap, seeks investigation

ITANAGAR, DEC 27 : The Tara Aab multipurpose welfare society and Arunachal Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) while condoling the premature death of promising boxer Late Techi Maniya and urged upon the home department and capital police to take necessary action with regard to his accident and death thereof near Assam-Meghalaya border.

The Tara Aab multipurpose welfare society Executive secretary Nera Techi Tara said that Maniya died in a road accident at Jorabat/Khanapara on the Assam-Meghalaya boundary on 23 December, with his death it is a great loss for the people of state and the family is in deep shock. The sports department of state should immediately establish contact with the counterpart and know the cause of the accident and death thereof. He said.

He appeal the capital police and district administration to immediately contact the police station where the accident takes place and punish the culprit. He added.

The AABA secretary general Teli Kahi said that he was a promising boxer and his premature demise is a great loss for the state and boxing fraternity.

He had won a bronze medal in the first North East Olympic Games, which was held in Manipur. He had also won gold medals in state-level boxing championships and had participated in the schools games and national boxing championships.

The incident happened on 23rd evening around 8 PM when Late Maniya was gearing up to return to boxing for a rehearsal to take part in national championship to be held at Haryana in December 2022. 

The family members, well wishers and relative has sought investigation into the accident case and punishment to the culprit. 

Late Techi Maniya, 20 years, son of Late Techi Tania has carried forward his schooling form Itanagar and was pursuing his degree course at university of science & Technology (USTM) Meghalaya. He was hit by a truck form backside and was taken to nearby hospital later passed away.

The AABA Secretary general Teli Kahi meanwhile has announced that the Ganga Boxing Club (GBC) here, has announced that the GBC will be named after Techi Maniya.
